AUSTIN, Texas
 – Senior quarterback Mac Jones of the University of Alabama has been named the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division I, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Jones becomes the fourth University of Alabama student-athlete to be honored, joining Brooke Pancake (2011-12, W At-Large Golf), Barrett Jones (2012-13, Football), and Kim Jacob (2013-14 W At-Large Golf). He is also the 11th football player to receive the award that originated during the 1987-88 academic year.

A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Jones graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies in December of 2019 and maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA. He then completed a master’s degree in sport hospitality a year later in December of 2020, finishing once again with a 4.00 GPA.

“It is an honor to be named the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year. Being an Academic All-American® is something I’ve always dreamed of and it has been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember,” said Jones. “Through hard work and help from close family, friends, teachers and mentors, I have long understood the importance of school, learning and leadership. Thank you to everyone who helped me along my academic journey.”

A consensus First Team All-American and the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Jones helped the top-ranked Crimson Tide capture the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship, posting an NCAA-leading 201.1 passer rating and a 96.1 quarterback rating in Alabama’s perfect 13-0 season.

He set the NCAA single-season record for completion percentage at 77.4 percent in 2020, completing 311 out of 402 attempts with 41 touchdowns and an NCAA Division I-best 4,500 total passing yards.

Jones was one of four 2020 Heisman Trophy finalists and won the Davey O’Brien, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm and Manning Awards. He was drafted 15th overall by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Giovanna Tapigliani of Missouri Baptist University was named the CoSIDA NAIA Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year Monday (August 16) while Hanna Hull of Virginia Wesleyan was named the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year Tuesday (August 17) and Rachel Massaro of Queens University of Charlotte was honored as the CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year Wednesday (August 18).
