AUSTIN, Texas – Messiah University sophomore volleyball student-athlete Mason Nissley headlines the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division III Men's At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
A finance major with a 4.0 grade-point average from Manheim, Pennsylvania, Nissley was named the Academic All-America® Men’s Team Member of the Year.

Nissley was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Year and an AVCA first-team All-American in 2021. He helped lead the Falcons to the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship, a 17-3 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals. Nissley set a Division III record for kills per set with 5.69 and finished the season with 370.
  
Among the 45 student-athletes selected to the Academic All-America® Division III Men's At-Large teams, 14 carry a 4.0 grade-point average. The 15 members of the men’s at-large first team carry an average GPA of 3.92.
 
Nine men are repeat Academic All-America® selections, including three-time honoree tennis student-athlete Walker Anderson of Hobart College, who repeated his Academic All-America® first-team selection from 2020 and received second-team distinction as a sophomore in 2019.
 
Other men’s student-athletes to repeat as CoSIDA Academic All-America® honorees: first-teamers Boris Sorkin (Tufts, tennis) and Rob Wuethrich (Illinois Wesleyan, golf) were second-team selections in 2020, while Gabriel Chicoine (Norwich, ice hockey) and Vishnu Joshi (Johns Hopkins, tennis) were earned third-team distinction a year ago; second-teamer Paul Rechberger (Castleton, skiing) repeated his honor from 2020, and Matthew Chen (Case Western Reserve, tennis) and Dylan Rice (Christopher Newport, lacrosse) were third-team honorees last year; and Cameron Marous (Ohio Northern, lacrosse) collected his second third-team award after earning his first in 2018-19. 
 
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
