AUSTIN, Texas – Five standouts athletically and academically – University of Louisville swimmer Nick Albiero, McKendree University swimmer Xander Skinner, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges water polo player Kellan Grant, Indiana Institute of Technology wrestler Eric Vermillion and Cloud County Community College wrestler Zach Ferris – highlight the 2021-22 Academic All-America® men’s at-large teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Albiero (Division I), Skinner (Division II), Grant (Division III), Vermillion (NAIA) and Ferris (College Division) have each been named the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for their respective divisions.

Nick Albiero, who was also the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year in 2021, was named ACC Men's Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive year after winning the 200 butterfly at the ACC Championships for an ACC-record fifth consecutive year. He earned seven All-America honors this season, finishing third in the 200 butterfly, sixth in the 100 butterfly, and sixth in the 100 backstroke. He was also a member of the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 800 freestyle relay, and 400 freestyle which all earned All-America honors. In his career at Louisville, Albiero earned 28 All-American accolades, including 12 individual All-American honors. Albiero, a graduate student who hails from Louisville, Ky., has a 3.77 GPA in business administration.
 
Twenty members of the Academic All-America® Division I men’s at-large teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 15 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.93.

A graduate student from Namibia, Africa, Xander Skinner wrapped up his storied collegiate career this past March by earning seven All-American honors in the pool at the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's Swimming & Diving Championships. With those seven All-America honors this year, Skinner capped off his McKendree swim career with 21 All-America accolades. He is a business administration major with a 3.88 GPA.
 
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division II Academic All-America® program.

Kellan Grant, a junior goalkeeper from Claremont, Calif., was named the 2021 ACWPC Division III Player of the Year and earned All-American honors after posting 260 saves and 34 steals in 30 games and 772:13 minutes in-goal for the Sagehens during the 2021 campaign. He helped lead Pomona-Pitzer to the 2021NCAA Division III Men’s Water Polo National Championship and a 27-8 overall record. He is an economics major with a perfect 4.00 GPA.

Eric Vermillion, who hails from Mason, Ohio, became Indiana Tech’s second, two-time national champion after claiming the 184-pound crown at the 2022 NAIA National Championships. He capped his season with an impressive overall record of 24-3 and repeated as the WHAC 184-pound conference champion. Vermillion is a senior industrial and mechanical engineering major with a 3.89 GPA.

A sophomore from Chapman, Kan., Zach Ferris became Cloud County’s first two-time All-American after finishing third at 197 pounds at the 2022 NJCAA National Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on March 5th. He capped off his impressive career with the Thunderbirds with an overall record of 40-6 and set the school record for wins in a national tournament (nine) and career win percentage (.869). He is a business major with a flawless 4.00 GPA.
 
The college division includes two-year institutions, Canadian institutions and any United States four-year institutions that are not affiliated with the NCAA or NAIA.
 
Four members of the Academic All-America® College Division men’s at-large teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA for 2022. The seven members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.92.
