Four talented student-athletes highlight 2023 men's soccer Academic All-America® teams

AUSTIN, Texas – Four standouts headline a group of outstanding student-athletes named to the 2023 Academic All-America® men’s soccer teams as selected by the College Sports Communicators.
 
Dylan Sing from Western Michigan University, Matteo Napoletano from Kentucky Wesleyan University, Logan Falzarano from Johns Hopkins University, and Guido Cacciabue of St. Thomas (Fla.) University lead the Academic All-America® teams by being named as the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III as well as the NAIA, respectively.
 
The four Academic All-America® teams, totaling 126 players, have a 3.86 average grade-point average with 30 members posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.
 

NCAA Division I

Dylan Sing, a graduate student studying integrated supply management, owns a GPA of 3.99. Sing finished the 2023 season ranked third in the final NCAA Division I statistics in goals scored (15) and total points. Sing, who finished his WMU career with 34 goals and 22 assists which is tied for second and third most in program history, was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and Forward of the Year in 2023. The forward from Berrien Center, Michigan, set the program record for the most consecutive games with a goal scored (eight straight games).
 
Sing, who was named to the CSC Academic All-America® first team in 2022, was selected the MVC Men’s Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year this fall and was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region first team.
 
Sing was one of three repeat selections to the Academic All-America® Division I team. Sing’s teammate Charlie Sharp and UCLA’s Tommy Silva were the others.
 
The Division I team boasted a 3.88 average GPA.

NCAA Division II

Matteo Napoletano, a senior forward from Castelfranco Veneto, Italy, has a 3.95 cumulative GPA as a business administration major. The Great Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year finished the season with 25 points, totaling 10 goals and five assists. Napoletano recorded four game-winning goals, which was ranked fourth best in NCAA Division II, for the Panthers, who recorded back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1983-84. He was also named to the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association All-Midwest first team.
 
Division II had two repeat selections on the Academic All-America® team: Harri Lovett (Chowan University) and Geo Rios (Clayton State University).
 
The Division II team had a 3.85 average GPA.

NCAA Division III

Logan Falzarano, a senior defender from Lebanon, New Hampshire, has a 3.99 cumulative GPA as an applied mathematics & statistics and computer science major. He started all 22 matches for Johns Hopkins and totaled one goal and two assists as JHU won its 10th Centennial Conference championship this season. The Blue Jays (13-5-4) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2023. Falzarano scored the game-winner in the conference championship and was named the tournament’s MVP. The two-time all-conference performer was named to the Academic All-America® team for the third time in his career as he was named to the first team in 2022 and to the third team in 2021.
 
Seven members of the Division II team were repeat Academic All-America® selections: Justin Cross (Stevens Institute of Technology), Falzarano, Alex Lippiatt (Case Western Reserve University), Aidan Westerberg (North Central College), Bruno Andino (Stevens Tech), Matt Vatne (Case Western Reserve) and Tyler Murphy (Trine University). Falzarano and Westerberg were three-time honorees.
 
The complete Division III team had an average 3.87 GPA.

NAIA

Guido Cacciabue, a senior midfielder from Buenos Aires, Argentina, has a 3.86 GPA as a business management major. Cacciabue was named a first team NAIA All-American as he helped lead the 18-1-3 Bobcats to the semifinals of the NAIA National Soccer Tournament. He was just the third Bobcat to be named a first team All-America in program history as he scored 13 goals and assisted on five others as he tallied 31 points.
 
Cacciabue, who was named to the first team in 2022, is one of seven repeat selections to the Academic All-America® team from the NAIA: Matteo Conci (Grace College), Aviad Golan (Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) University), Nick Kilian (Olivet Nazarene University), Cacciabue, Guy Baskerville (Columbia (Mo.) College), Ryan Pearson (Oregon Tech) and Guilherme Franca (Dalton State College).
 
The NAIA teams had an 3.82 average GPA.
