AUSTIN, Texas – Four standouts headline a group of outstanding student-athletes named to the inaugural Academic All-America® men’s swimming and diving teams as selected by College Sports Communicators.
 
Andrew Capobianco from Indiana University, Matteo Zampese from Florida Southern College, Kellen Roddy from Johns Hopkins University, and Alberto Garcia Marcos of Keiser University lead the Academic All-America® teams by being named as the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III as well as the NAIA, respectively.
 
Men’s swimming and diving had previously been a part of the men’s at-large team until the 2022-23 season.

Andrew Capobianco, a senior from Holly Springs, North Carolina, has 3.58 cumulative grade-point average as an exercise science major. Capobianco has qualified in three diving events — platform, 1-meter and 3-meter — in the upcoming NCAA Division I National Championships. Capobianco is a two-time 3-meter NCAA diving champion. He has been named the Big Ten Diver of the Year four times in his career and has been named an All-American 10 times.
 
There are three repeat selections to the Division I Academic All-America® team: Jake Foster (University of Texas), Derek Maas (University of Alabama) and Leon MacAlister (Stanford University).
 
The Division I team boasted a 3.85 average GPA with the first team checking in at 3.87.

NCAA Division II

Matteo Zampese, who is a junior from Bologna, Italy, has a 4.00 as a graphic design major. Zampese is a repeat Academic All-America® first team selection. Zampese helped the Mocs finish in 11th place at the NCAA Division II National Championship as he finished in the top three swimmers as he placed second in the 200 individual medley, the 100 breaststroke, and a third place finish in the 200 breaststroke. He won the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 200 individual medley at this year's Sunshine State Conference Championships. Zampese is a 12-time All-American.
 
Division II had six repeat selections: Lane Austin (Colorado Mesa University) Luka Cvetko (Wayne State University), Mahmoud Elgayar (Colorado Mesa), Cade Hamond (University of Indianapolis), Ben Sampson (Colorado Mesa) and Zampese. Elgayar has been named to the Academic All-America® team four times.
 
The Division II team boasted a 3.84 average GPA with the first team checking in at 3.86.
 
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division II Academic All-America® program.

NCAA Division III

Kellen Roddy, a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, has a 3.98 GPA as a chemical and biomolecular engineering major. Roddy helped the Blue Jays to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championships as he won his second consecutive national title in the 1,650 freestyle race. He also added a fifth-place finish in the 500 freestyle. Roddy has been named an All-American six times in his career. He is a full-time undergraduate researcher in the Desai Lab at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Department.
 
Four members of the Division III team were selected last year: Drew Albrecht (Kenyon College), Adam Janicki (MIT), Tobe Obochi (MIT) and Kyle Staubi (Worchester Polytechnic Institute).
 
The Division III Academic All-America® team had a 3.90 average GPA with the first team boasting a 3.92.
 
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division III Academic All-America® program.

Alberto Garcia Marcos, a senior from Madrid, Spain, has a 3.93 GPA as a business administration major. He was named the NAIA Men's Swimmer of the Year after leading Keiser to its fifth straight national championship. It marked the Garcia Marcos’ second straight NAIA Men's Swimmer of the Year honor. Garcia Marcos claimed national championship titles in the 800 freestyle relay, the 200 freestyle relay, the 100 butterfly, the 100 backstroke, the 100 freestyle, and the 400 freestyle relay. Garcia Marcos earned All-America honors in eight different events this season.
 
The NAIA team boasted a 3.86 average GPA with the first team checking in at 3.84.
