AUSTIN, Texas – Four standouts on the courts and in the classroom – University of Texas’ Eliot Spizzirri, Marko Jovanovic of Adelphi University, MIT’s Kailas Kahler, and Charly Zick of Georgia Gwinnett College – highlight the 2023-24 Academic All- America® men’s tennis teams selected by the College Sports Communicators.
 
Spizzirri (Division I), Jovanovic (Division II), Kahler (Division III) and Zick (NAIA) have each been named the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for their respective divisions.
 

NCAA Division I

Eliot Spizzirri is a senior finance major with a 3.71 cumulative grade-point average. Spizzirri, who finished No. 1 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings for the second consecutive season and is only the fourth player to finish No. 1 twice since the ITA rankings began in 1981. The Greenwich, Connecticut, native was also ranked in the top 15 in doubles with two different partners. Spizzirri is a seven-time – three times in singles and four more in doubles - ITA All-American.
 
The 2023 National Player of the Year, Spizzirri finished his career with 218 combined singles and doubles wins at Texas, including 113 in singles and 105 in doubles. Spizzirri, who was named to the CSC Academic All-America® first team in 2022-23, helped lead the No. 2 Longhorns to a national runner-up finish in 2024 as well as winning both the Big 12 regular season and tournament championships. Spizzirri, who has been named to the All-Big 12 team eight times in his career as well as being the Big 12 Player of the Year twice, has been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and to the Academic All-1Big 12 team during his time at Texas.
 
The seven members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.71.
 
In addition to Spizzirri, four other student-athletes were repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division I men’s team – Isaac Becroft (Oklahoma State University), Lukas Engelhardt (Ole Miss), Cannon Kingsley (Ohio State University), and Alex Maggs (The University of New Mexico).

NCAA Division II

Marko Jovanovic, who is a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, had a 3.98 GPA as an accounting major and is a repeat first-team Academic All-America® selection.

Jovanovic was named to the All-Northeast-10 Conference first team selection in 2023 and was named the NE 10 Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Jovanovic also earned the NE10’s Elite 24 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at each of the conference's championship final sites. Jovanovic, who helped Adelphi to an NE10 regular season championship and a NCAA Division II appearance, was also named the 2023-24 Adelphi Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, went 21-3 in singles and 13-7 in doubles.
 
The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.96.
 
There are 10 repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division II men’s tennis teams, including Jovanovic – Alex Blanchar (Ouachita Baptist University), Efe Comu (Rollins College), Jesse Den Hartog (Southern New Hampshire), Cedric Drenth (Wayne State University), Daniel Grey (Wayne State), Jan Koupil (Ferris State University), Luca Mack (Valdosta State University), Nemanja Subanovic (Tusculum University), and Tom Zeuch (University of Indianapolis).
 
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division II Academic All-America® program.

NCAA Division III

Kailas Kahler, a senior from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was a repeat Academic All-America® selection after being named to the third team a season ago. Kahler has a 4.00 GPA as an electrical engineering and computer science major.
 
Kahler was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Player of the Year and to the All-NEWMAC squad for the second consecutive season as he went 11-4 in singles and 13-5 in doubles in 2024. Kahler, who finished ranked 14th in the ITA Division III singles rankings, helped lead the No. 22 Engineers to a 20-4 mark as they advanced to the regional championship match of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Kahler was named the NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team and was a three-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honoree.
 
The seven members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.95.
 
There are four repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division III men’s tennis teams, including Kahler – Vishwa Aduru (Case Western Reserve University), Arjun Asokumar (University of Chicago), and Arah Shah (Case Western Reserve).

NAIA

Charly Zick, a senior from Munich, Germany, posted a 3.83 GPA as a psychology major.

Zick helped lead the Grizzlies to a perfect 18-0 slate in 2024 as the Georgia Gwinnett captured its 10th consecutive NAIA Men’s Tennis Championship crown this season. Zick, who was a 2023 NAIA All-America honorable mention selection, posted an 8-2 ledger in singles and was 0-2 in doubles this campaign.
 
The seven members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.84.
 
There are four repeat performers on the NAIA team – Milan Bucek (Bethel College), Martin Muller (University of the Cumberlands), Bryce Ware (Kansas Wesleyan University) and Hung-Ju Wu (Cumberlands) – were on the 2022-23 team.
