Four talented student-athletes lead 2025 Men's Soccer Academic All-America® teams; Caldeira repeats as Team Member of the Year in Division I

GREENWOOD, Indiana – Four standouts headline a group of outstanding student-athletes named to the 2025 Academic All-America® men’s soccer teams as selected by the College Sports Communicators.
 
Marcus Caldeira from West Virginia University, Sverre Orten from Gannon University, Johnny Troiano from Rowan University, and Mario Goic of SCAD Savannah lead the Academic All-America® teams by being named as the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III as well as the NAIA, respectively.
 

NCAA Division I

Marcus Caldeira, a senior majoring in finance, owns a grade-point average of 4.00. The forward from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada is a repeat selection as the Division I Team Member of the Year and is now a three-time first team Academic All-America® selection. He led West Virginia finished the season at 13-5-3, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He was named the Sun Belt Player and Offensive Player of the Year along with earning a spot on the All-Sun Belt First Team.
 
The fourth Mountaineer to be named Conference Player of the Year, Caldeira is now a three-time All-Sun Belt selection, earning spots on the first team in 2023 and 2025 and second team in 2024.
 
Caldeira played in all 21 games with 20 starts. He scored a career-high 14 goals, leading the Sun Belt, along with a career-best seven assists for 35 points. He led the Sun Belt with 35 points while ranking fourth in the nation with six game-winning goals.
 
In addition to Caldeira, Ulfur Bjornsson of Duke University was a repeat Academic All-America® selection. Bjornsson was named to the third team earning second team accolades in 2024.
 
The 12 members of the Division I first team had a 3.94 average GPA. A total of 11 members had 4.00 GPAs, with five on the first team.

NCAA Division II

Sverre Orten, a senior midfielder from Orsta, Norway, has a 3.82 cumulative GPA as a finance major. He becomes a two-time CSC Academic All-American® after earning second team honors a year ago.
 
He was recently named the D2CCA Men’s Soccer Ron Lenz Player of the Year, becoming a two-time D2CCA first team All-American. In addition he was the D2CCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year. Late last week he earned United Soccer Coaches All-American honors for the second time, earning first team honors in 2024 and third team this year. Orten was voted the PSAC West Athlete of the Year and was a four-time All-PSAC West first team selection. A year ago he was selected the United Soccer Coaches National Scholar Player of the Year.
 
With Orten leading the way Gannon finished the season with a 15-3-4 record, winning a first-ever PSAC Championship and upsetting two higher-seeded teams to reach the Elite Eight. Orten led Division II in goals with 17 and added 12 assists, which is seventh nationally, for a total of 46 points. That figure led Division II as well. He departs ranking second in career assists (46) and seventh in career points (116).
 
Orten is one of three Division II repeat selections on the Academic All-America® team. Tadhg Walsh of Fort Hays State University moved up from the third team to the first team while Miles Seminario of University of Colorado Colorado Springs is a third team selection after earning second team honors in 2024.
 
The Division II first team had a 3.95 average GPA. Eleven total members have 4.00 GPAs, with eight of those on the first team.
 
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Division II Academic All-America® program.

NCAA Division III

9982

Johnny Troiano, a senior forward from Hazlet, New Jersey, is law & justice studies major with a 3.76 GPA. He was also a first team Division III Academic All-American® in 2024. He also recently was named a United Soccer Coaches third team All-American for the second straight year. Troiano was named the NJAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year, the first player in program history to win the award twice. He is a three-time first team All-NJAC honoree.
 
Troiano helped the Profs finish with a 17-4-4 record, advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament after winning the NJAC Championship. He led the NJAC with a career-high 19 goals, adding five assists for 43 points. He had six game-winning goals. He ranks fourth on the Profs' all-time scoring list with 131 career points (55 goals, 21 assists) and is third all-time with 55 career goals.  
 
Troiano was the only repeat performer on the Division III Academic All-America® Team. The Division III first team had an average GPA of 3.92, with three members having 4.00 GPAs. A total of five student-athletes on the three teams had 4.00 GPAs.

NAIA

Mario Goic, a graduate student forward, has a 3.77 GPA as a Luxury & Brand Management major after posting a 3.76 GPA as an undergrad. A former transfer from Queens (N.C.), he was recently named the Sun Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
 
The native of Zadar, Croatia led SCAD Savannah with 13 goals, adding four assists, for 30 points while playing in 16 matches. He helped the Bees to a 7-7-4 record. As a senior in 2024 he contributed 17 goals and two assists for 36 points.
 
Two players are repeat selections to the Academic All-America® team from the NAIA. Goic was joined by Lucas Catosso of Mid-America Christian University, who was also a first-team choice a year ago.
 
The NAIA first team had a 3.85 average GPA, with three members of the first team and four total showing 4.00 GPAs.
 
The NAIA Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 NAIA Academic All-America® program.
