Four talented student-athletes headline 2024-25 Academic All-America men's tennis teams; Drenth named Team Member of the year in DII for second time

AUSTIN, Texas – Four standouts on the courts and in the classroom – University of Texas’ Pierre-Yves Bailly, Cedric Drenth of Wayne State University, Advik Mareedu of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and Keiser University’s Shaheed Alam – highlight the 2024-25 Academic All- America® men’s tennis teams selected by College Sports Communicators.
 
Bailly (Division I), Drenth (Division II), Mareedu (Division III) and Alam (NAIA) have each been named the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for their respective divisions.
 

NCAA Division I

Pierre-Yves Bailly is a senior economics major with a 3.91 cumulative grade-point average in the prestigious McCombs School of Business.
 
In his first season in the Southeastern Conference, he was named the SEC Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Bailly earned first-team All-SEC honors with a 25-7 singles record, including 7-2 in the SEC, and a 22-12 mark in doubles, posting an 8-4 record in conference play.
 
Bailly finished a combined 5-1 in singles and doubles in the Big 12/SEC Challenge in the fall portion of the season. He was a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection and earned a Big 12 title at No. 2 doubles.
 
The seven members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.83.
 
Graduate student Isaac Becroft (Oklahoma State University) earned Academic All-America® Division I honors for the third consecutive year, garnering a spot on the third team. Junior Ozan Baris (Michigan State University) was named to the second team this year after being selected to the first team in 2022-23.

NCAA Division II

Cedric Drenth, a senior from Sulzbach, Germany, had a 3.96 GPA as a finance major. He was named a first-team Academic All-America® selection for the third year in a row and named the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for the second time in three seasons.
 
Drenth, who was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year, earned first-team All-GLIAC honors in singles and doubles. He notched a 106-35 career mark in singles and 122-38 in doubles, making him the only player in program history to eclipse 100 victories in both.
 
The 2023-24 recipient of the GLIAC Commissioner’s Award for outstanding athletic and academic achievement, Drenth earned ITA All-America honors in each of his first three seasons in doubles and the past two seasons in singles. He was named a recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award in his sophomore and junior campaigns.
 
The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.88.
 
Drenth is one of seven repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division II men’s tennis teams. He is joined by Chris Fok Kow (Florida Southern), Elias Walter (Asuza Pacific), Tim Riedel (Barry University), Alexander Leischner (Point Loma Nazarene University), and Hugo Munoz Reinoso (Adelphi University) as repeat honorees. Aldephi’s Marko Jovanovic was also named to the Academic All-America® first team for the third consecutive year.
 
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division II Academic All-America® program.

NCAA Division III

Advik Mereedu is a junior and a repeat first-team Academic All-America® selection. He has a 3.82 GPA as a computer science and mathematics major.
 
Mareedu completed a historic year in which he won both the ITA Cup singles national title and the NCAA Division III singles title in the same season. He finished the year 41-1 overall and 35-0 against NCAA Division III competition, dropping only four sets all season to Division III opponents.
 
He was named the 2025 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year, the third time in as many seasons he was recognized with the honor. He captured the 2023 ITA Cup singles national title and finished second in the NCAA Division III Singles Championship that season. Mareedu is 101-13 in singles after three seasons and has posted a 67-38 mark in doubles.
 
The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.85.
 
Mereedu was joined as a first-team Academic All-America® Division III men’s tennis team repeat selection by senior Ajay Mahenthiran (Case Western Reserve University). Graduate student Efe Comu (Emory University) earned second-team Academic All-America® honors for the third time, the first in NCAA Division III after being honored in NCAA Division II the past two years. Marco Siviero (Gustavus Adolphus College) was named to the Academic All-America® second team last season.

NAIA

Shaheed Alam, a junior from Singapore, has recorded a 3.96 GPA as a business administration major.
 
Alam finished the season with a 21-3 mark in singles, 14-2 in dual matches, and was named a 2025 NAIA All-American in singles. He posted a 14-5 record in doubles with a 13-4 mark in dual matches. Alam is a three-time NAIA All-American with a 64-17 career record in singles.
 
The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.87.
 
There are four repeat performers on the NAIA team – Alam, Mark Trenkle (Morningside University), Joren Stevens (Midland University) and Nereo Suarez (Xavier University of Louisiana) – who were on the 2023-24 team.
 
The NAIA Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 NAIA Academic All-America® program.
