Four talented student-athletes lead 2025-26 Men's Tennis Academic All-America® teams as Team Members of the Year; Mareedu and Alam repeat as Team Member of the Year in DII and NAIA

GREENWOOD, Indiana – Four standouts on the courts and in the classroom – Dylan Dietrich of University of Virginia, Adam Lynch of Barry University, Advik Mareedu of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and Keiser University’s Shaheed Alam – highlight the 2025-26 Academic All- America® men’s tennis teams selected by College Sports Communicators.
 
Dietrich (Division I), Lynch (Division II), Mareedu (Division III) and Alam (NAIA) have each been named the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for their respective divisions. Mareedu and Alam are repeat selections as Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year.
 

NCAA Division I

Dylan Dietrich is a junior data science major with a 3.70 cumulative grade-point average.

The 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year was named the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship Most Valuable Player and earned the clinching point as Virginia captured its seventh NCAA title. He teamed with Mans Dahlberg to win the NCAA Division I doubles championship, the fourth tandem in program history to accomplish the feat.

Dietrich garnered Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-America honors in singles for the third time and doubles for the first time. He finished the season at No. 1 in the ITA Singles Rankings with a 24-1 dual match record. He had a 26-8 overall mark in doubles.

The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.77.

Seniors Jay Friend (University of Arizona), Petar Jovanovic (Mississippi State University), and Michael Zheng (Columbia University) earned Academic All-America® Division I first team honors for the second consecutive year. Senior Sebastian Gorzny (University of Texas) garnered first team accolades for the first time after being named to the second team in 2024-25. Senior Kenta Miyoshi (University of Illinois) was named to the second team after receiving first team honors last season. Senior Ozan Baris (Michigan State University) received Academic All-America® recognition for the third consecutive year, being named to the third team this season.

NCAA Division II

Adam Lynch is a senior computer science major who maintained a 4.0 grade point average.

He was awarded the NCAA Elite Scholar Award at the 2026 NCAA Division II Men’s Tennis Championship. The award recognizes student-athletes who excel in athletics and academics, granted to the individual with the highest cumulative grade point average at the championship finals site.

Lynch finished 17-1 in singles and 17-2 in doubles in dual matches this season. He secured the clinching point in the national semifinals that sent Barry to its 15th NCAA championship match with their 25th consecutive victory.

The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.98.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Division II Academic All-America® program.

NCAA Division III

Advik Mareedu, a senior with a 3.87 GPA as a computer science and mathematics major, repeated as Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year while being named to the first team for the third consecutive year.

He won the NCAA Division III singles title for the second consecutive year, capping a season in which he set program records for singles wins (43) and combined singles and doubles victories (75). He posted a combined 84-3 singles record over the past two seasons with only two losses to NCAA Division III opponents and finished his career with a 144-15 mark.

The four-time 2025 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year, Mareedu was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Player of the Year and was named a regional winner of the ITA Arhtur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award.

The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.87.

Mareedu was joined as a first-team Academic All-America® Division III men’s tennis team repeat selection by seniors Gage Gohl (Gustavus Adolphus College), Ethan Green (Denison University), and Michael Melnikov (Swarthmore College). Senior Kael Shah of Denison University was named to the first team after receiving second team honors in 2024-25, while Middlebury College’s Julian Wu was also named to the first team after being selected to the third team in 2023-24 . Senior Emil Grantcharov (University of Chicago) repeated on the second team and junior Theo Billson (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater) was named to the third team for the second consecutive year.

NAIA

Shaheed Alam, a senior from Singapore, achieved a 3.97 GPA as a business administration major. He was named to the Academic All-America® first team for the third consecutive year in addition to repeating as Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year.

Alam earned NAIA first team All-America honors for the fourth consecutive year. He posted a 19-3 overall record in singles and 22-4 mark in doubles and completed his career with an 83-20 record in singles.

The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.80.

Senior Nick Velders (Concordia University, Nebraska) joined Alam as a repeat first team selection. Seniors Alexis Diaz (Morningside University) and Luis Francisco Sampedro (Georgia Gwinnett College) were named to the first team after garnering second team honors last year.
