AUSTIN, Texas – Six repeat selections headline the 2017-18 Academic All-America® Division III Men’s Basketball teams in selections announced Wednesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Nebraska Wesleyan’s
Cooper Cook, a two-time Academic All-America® pick, lead this sextet with his selection as the 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-America® of the Year for Division III men’s basketball.
Joining Cook as repeat honorees are
Nate Axelrod from Ohio Wesleyan,
David Stokman from Saint John’s (Minn.),
Edvinas Rupkus from Skidmore,
Brandon Federici from Franklin & Marshall and
Wes McKinney from Hanover. Axelrod, Rupkus and Stokman are first team honorees in 2018 after having moved up from second and third teams in 2017, respectively. Federici matches his second team selection from one year ago while McKinney is a third team pick this season after having earned second team accolades in 2017.
Cook, from Overland Park, Kan., boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA as an accounting major. He is a two-time first team All-IIAC honoree, earning MVP honors in 2016-17, and has led NWU to a 28-3 record and the NCAA Division III Final Four with averages of 16.5 points and 6 rebounds per game. Cook also earned All-Region honors last season from both the NABC and D3hoops.com.
The 17-man CoSIDA Academic All-America® men’s team has a 3.84 GPA with the first team checking in at 3.91. Two men boast perfect 4.0s.
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
