AUSTIN, Texas
 – Virginia Wesleyan University standout pitcher Hanna Hull has been named the 2020-2021 CoSIDA NCAA Division III Academic All-America® Overall Team Member of the Year, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

“I am humbled and honored to be named the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year, said Hull. “Having the opportunity to continue my education in the MBA program while competing and winning a national championship is something I will forever be grateful for.”

A mathematics major with a 3.65 cumulative GPA and 3.85 GPA while pursuing a master of business administration degree, Hull was selected as Division III Softball’s Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for the second consecutive season.

“The challenges facing student athletes in the era of COVID-19 is unprecedented, and each and every student athlete who has the grit to persevere through this season deserves recognition, which makes this accolade even more meaningful to me,” said Hull. “I would like to especially thank my family, teammates, and coaches for the continuous support, from the decision to return for an additional season and throughout the journey of balancing work, school, and athletics. I would not be the person I am today without their love and support. I cannot thank CoSIDA enough for recognizing me as this year’s recipient.”

A first-team selection to the Academic All-America® Division III Team the past three years, Hull was named the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Pitcher of the Year after she led Virginia Wesleyan to its third national championship in four complete seasons.

She totaled a 23-3 record and three saves with 200 strikeouts, a 1.31 ERA and .134 opponent batting average in 154.2 innings pitched this spring. Hull broke Division III’s career record for pitching wins (132) and appearances (170), and finished fourth in strikeouts (1,353) and games started (138). She recorded 60 games of 10 or more strikeouts.

A native of Chesterfield, Virginia, Hull was a four-time NFCA first-team All-American, two-time NFCA Player of the Year, the 2017 NFCA Freshman of the Year and a seven-time NFCA Pitcher of the Week.

“Hanna has amazed us all throughout her illustrious career for what she has done inside the circle. She is a once in a career type of talent,” said Virginia Wesleyan head coach Brandon Elliott. “However, when you combine that with the academic honors, like this, and her character she’s the standard which may not be attainable ever again.”

The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
